We are overjoyed to have lead singer Dóri Behumi and the Budapest Bár join the ambassadors of Dancing on the Square project this year. She has a nice, personal message for us:
“I have a clear memory of attending my first chamber music lesson as a flute student when I was about 10. The experience of making music together was so powerful that I knew that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It has been my job and my calling and this uplifting experience hasn’t changed one bit. I feel it every time I go on stage with the Budapest Bár. I’m happy to be part of an initiative with my fellow musicians that gives children a sense of joy, the priceless experience of music and dancing together.”
Budapest Bár launched one of the most original and intriguing musical endeavours in recent years in 2007 by gathering Hungarian rock icons around Róbert Farkas’s band. The band that originally assembled for a single recording has been giving concerts at theatres, festivals and events to great success. They perform movie hits, cabaret songs, dance songs, and other famous songs, to the accompaniment of ornately orchestrated gypsy music, reinterpreting popular tunes or rediscovering forgotten gems.
This year’s Dancing on the Square concert will feature Iván Fischer and the Festival Orchestra alongside Roma musicians performing Brahms’ Hungarian Dances among others. Join our event on Facebook as well!
